Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. and is located in Melbourne, co-construction of Swinburne University of Technology Institute of the sun to develop the next generation of solar cells. A new generation of battery cells than normal cells with high efficiency twice the cost of manufacture and use will be greatly reduced.
It is reported that Victoria – Suntech advanced solar power plant will Nanoplas pave the way for the commercialization of solar technology, compared with current battery technology, this technology can effectively broader color spectrum from the absorption of solar energy.
Zhengrong Shi, Suntech’s Chairman and CEO, said: “With the solar energy in Australia and around the world were flat with the grid price, we are engaged in the production of revolutionary power, permanently re-define the way the world’s energy use.”
The Institute is the outcome of bilateral cooperation, started in April last year, the two sides open plan to jointly develop new solar technologies. Director, Centre for Micro-Optical Swinburne – Professor Gu Min, Shi Zhengrong jointly responsible with the Institute.
Professor Gu says the project’s main advantage is that it will allow researchers at Swinburne University in close cooperation with Suntech; Suntech – the world’s largest manufacturer of crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules, involving the entire research and development process.
Professor Gu says, this advantage will ensure Nanoplas technology can be easily transferred to the production line.
The research institute will bring together Australia’s leading solar energy researchers, a Suntech factory in the country outpost of the production.
Victorian Science Agenda Investment Fund of 300 million Australian dollars (260 million) in funding to support the building of the institution.
Suntech in more than 80 countries more than 1,400 customers more than 900 million of photovoltaic Solar panels.
According to Reuters, the company plans in the next 3 years in the investment of 2.68 billion yuan in Shanghai (393 million U.S. dollars) to increase the production capacity of 1 gigawatt.
Its partners – Swinburne University of Technology, has the world-renowned research centers, including the Center for Astrophysics and Supercomputing, micro-photonics center.
